Traveling to L.A. frequently also means I get to explore this city beyond touristic activities. My LOML and I enjoy doing romantic activities together and one of them is watching outdoor movies on our date nights.
I was excited to find one of my favorite teen movies listed on Rooftop Cinema Club DTLA and we were so ready for a good dose of nostalgia. (This review includes a 20% OFF voucher code for a limited time, scroll down to get it!)
Rooftop Cinema Club DTLA
Located in the heart of Downtown L.A., Rooftop Cinema Club DTLA is nestled between sky-high towers and city lights on the 4th-floor open-air terrace at LEVEL.
Getting there / Parking Lot
We parked our car at one of the public parking lots called Athena Parking at 855 South Olive, right across the street (flat fee of US$8 after 3 p.m.). Plenty of parking available. You can also valet at LEVEL for US$15.
The elevators at LEVEL’s parking garage will take you to the Rooftop Cinema Club on the 4th floor and you’ll see more signages that lead you to the venue.
Grab your headphones
Doors open 60 minutes before the screening, and we got there right on time to be the first guests (So excited!). We were given a purple wrist tag at the Box Office for Love Seats + Popcorn.
Choose your seat
Even though we got the Love Seats + Popcorn tickets, it’s still free seating at Rooftop Cinema Club. The next best thing to do after grabbing your headphones is to decide on your seats before heading to play some pre-movie games and grab a drink.
Play card/board games
Since we were early, we got to enjoy the sunset views and choose from a variety of card/board games that were provided at the venue without having to wait for it. There were several bar table seats on a first-come-first-serve basis.
Food & Drinks
There are two F&B stands at Rooftop Cinema Club DTLA.
The SNACKS stand serves popcorn, hot dogs, nachos, pretzels, candies, and soft drinks while the BAR is handled by Hi-Lo which has a great variety of local LA craft beer, summer-release regional wines, fresh spritz, and mocktails at reasonable prices.
We are also allowed to bring our own food to enjoy on the rooftop too! Just no outside drinks.
Bring Your Own Blanket
As the temperature dips after sunset, we highly recommend bringing your own blanket too. Great for cozying up as well as keeping warm. And of course, we brought our fuzzy blanket along.
Our Rooftop Cinema Experience
We watched the Romeo & Juliet (1996) film and we were surprised that the film quality looked way better than we remembered. I’m guessing the original film is further enhanced digitally.
Excellent projector system, high-quality wireless headphones, and comfy seats. I like that the headphones were already properly sanitized; they are also well-maintained and in great condition. The overall service experience was breezy.
As first-time guests, we had a great time!
