Buellton is a quaint small town that is approximately 45 drive minutes from Santa Barbara in the Santa Ynez Valley. Typically known as the “Home of Split Pea Soup”, it is also a good wine-growing region for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
During our road trip, we were looking for wine tasting with live music in Buellton and we found an unpretentious winery called Brick Barn Wine Estate, located north of the Santa Ynez River in Buellton.
Nestled between the valley’s warmer inland parts and the colder surroundings of the Sta. Rita Hills AVA, this 35-acre Brick Barn Wine Estate is open daily from 11am to 7pm. Walk-in only and no reservation is required.
They have weekly events which are fun and we went on a Friday:
Wine Down Wednesday 5-7pm
Food Truck Friday & Live Music 2-6pm
Live Music Saturday & Sunday 2-6pm
We arrived at 4 pm on a Friday and were greeted by the live music by a local musician, John Lyle, who was performing under the giant oak.
The ambiance was both lively and chill at the same from a small group of happy guests dancing to the music to a newborn who was so well-behaved and laying comfortably over his dad’s shoulder.
We went for the Signature wine tasting that includes 6 wines (US$25 per person / complimentary Wine Club members / one tasting fee waived with 1 bottle purchased).

The wine tasting room at Brick Barn is elegantly decorated and has plenty of sitting both inside and out with big buckets of complimentary bottled water situated at every corner.
From spacious patios, tree deck, to a cozy interior spot, there are also fire pits and patio heaters for you to cozy up to as well as picnic tables beneath a giant oak that will make the ideal background for your wine country picnic.
Even though there were only 3 staff on a busy Friday afternoon, the service was relatively attentive and especially cheerful when we got to know the staff better.
One thing that I love about this winery is that it is not stuffy unlike most of the wineries.
The overall vibes were absolutely unpretentious and we had a great time interacting with the staff during the wine tasting. No pushy sales either. We still got a bottle of yummy wine and it waived off one tasting fee.
Highly recommend if you’re exploring or passing by Buellton!
